Super Bowl, Super Fun!

I hate football. I actually hate all sports, except (of course) the always entertaining Olympic sport of curling, but that's another post. Growing up, I had a father and two brothers who watched every variation of most televised sports. Now I'm married to a sports lover, and God has blessed me with 3 handsome boys following, naturally, in their father's footsteps. So I continue to be out-numbered on this issue.
However, as much as I do not enjoy football, I do always love the Super Bowl.

Here are a few reasons why...

  • There's always a party. (This year, the Jacksons and the Walshs.)

  • Lots of terribly delectable food involved. (wings, twice baked potatoes, pasta, chips, dips, pizza rolls, taquitos, brownies, and ice cream)

  • We drink yummy beer. An expensive indulgence, but one that is clearly justified at a super bowl party. (Plus, I think it may be a law in AL that you must eat some form of pizza and drink beer while watching the super bowl!)

  • You don't have to watch the game at all to have fun at the party. Usually it's the guys around here that care about the game. I just annoy them to death by making them pose for pictures during commercials, which I try to convince them is actually a sacrifice on my part, since the commercials are the only part I enjoy!!

  • There's lots of laughter involved. We laughed alot. I love laughing.

  • The kids can be loud and even a little bit wild, and it's OK at this party. It's all about fun.

  • And most importantly, I like the way it makes me look. It makes me appear like a sports fan in a sports saturated community. I enjoy saying, "We're having a super Bowl party", and nothing else. Even though having the Jacksons and the Walshs over is absolutely nothing out of the ordinary routine, it makes me feel included in the football fanatic's world. Falsely so, but I'll take it.

  • Oh yeah, and I loved having the Jackson twins this year. We just passed them around from person to person like a footbal all evening, according to who was eating and who had a free hand at the tinme! They are so cute!!

So here's to Matt, Molly, Josh & Jen and a good time had by all.

Wonderful! You look so "sporty" in your picture. I have to agree with you about sports, and yet there I was last night...

I would love to hear more about curling. Tim and I just saw some of it for the first time this year. Do you really like it?

I also looked up the website for your church. It looks wonderful. I am so glad that you all have found a good, free place to worship.

Hey Abbey,
I was inviting a couple (the female) sunday at church to come to our house to watch the game, another female overheard and asked me who was playing?! 'I dont know' I tell her - but we are having a party!! (pretty bad, huh?) it was fun

I only like it becasue it is hilariuos to me. The stance...the gracefulness of the one woman who carefully, yet somewhat forcefully shoves that little puck down the lane... Then that poor other woman furiously gets to work sweeping in front of it in hopes that it will somehow stop at the perfect spot. Why??

It's the little joys in life...
