You Down With OCD??

Last night I had a baby shower at my house for a friend at my church. It was so much fun watching her open her ginormous pile of gifts, however I did have one tinsy problem with it. I have a "slight" disorder that some people like to call OCD. I prefer to call it "misunderstood normalness".
Anyway, as Amanda was opening her presents, another friend was "helping" her by wadding up all of the hundreds of perfectly good pieces of tissue paper and cramming them into a trash bag. My heart was beating at rapid speeds at this point. You see, I love colored tissue paper. I love it, but I can't stand paying good money for it, when other people are perfectly content to pay their good money for it, and then cram it into a trash bag for the normal people (like me) to greedily hoard all for themselves!

So, one of my favorite things to do(as part of my "normalness") is collect it, smooth it, iron it(on low heat if you're interested) and then organize by shades of coordinating colors. And the best part about collecting it is at all the parties, you can look like a servant by announcing, "I'll take that trash out for you." Then after you're thanked and appreciated, you act like you're headed to the dumpster, when all the while you're actually throwing it inconspicuously into your car. Mwa ha ha !!

Anyway, after this shower, I was visiting with three of my friends around my table downstairs and they were making fun of this obsessive quality of mine. However, I'm proud of my weirdness, so I told them after I completed my tissue task, I was going to take a picture of it and post it on my blog for all the world to see.

So, here's to Mindy, Molly, and Jennifer. And don't think, girls, that you won't end up with one of these lovely pieces of tissue paper in a gift one day. Oh, and the answer is no, in case you ever need to borrow some tissue paper of various shades of beautiful colors. Not gonna happen. I failed to mention that I'm also way too attached to my collection. I usually end up putting all the ripped pieces in people's gifts anyway, so as to weed out the "bad ones" that mess up the smoothness.

Oh, PS...Here's a shout out to my husband, who mistook the tissue-filled bag for actual trash last night, but went back out to the street at 11pm to retrieve it for me. Also, to my friend Tara, who knows of my "misunderstood normalness" and brought me a huge bag of crumpled tissue paper from a party that she went to once. Thanks to both of you for embracing my disorder and supporting me in it. I would be happy to bail either of you out in a tissue emergency.

That's All Folks...

How funny! I loved that because I am just crazy about paper in general. It's a paper fixation or something. I'll get beautifully themed napkins/paper plates at party supply places, and save them in a cabinet for some event in the future, only none are ever worthy. I buy pretty colored post it notes, but don't use them because they look so pretty, like various little rainbows, in shades like neon, or pastel, or colors of the sea, in my desk drawer. I do the same thing with tissue paper, and use white for gifts, keeping the nice assortment of colored for myself. (?!) I hate to admit I can totally understand this, and maybe we should form some recovery group for the rest of the world, since WE are the normal ones. You know, like "P.W.D.L.P.L.W.D." - People Who Don't Love Paper Like We Do. It's a paper thing, they wouldn't understand.

My collection is low, I may have to come in and steal some of yours. How sad is it that I am excited because of M's birthday meaning that I will be able to "harvest" some more. We could start hanging out at party venues and "collecting" as a group.

Dinner...Monday...still good...what time? We're pretty open, so if you want to let the kids have play time together, we can come a little earlier..just let me know...oh, and word is that it was 'our(us girls)' fault that your hubby got silly the other night. Al says he's bringing his over so they can compare...
