Today I escaped. My friend Molly came to pick me up and we went to Starbucks for a few hours. And even though we were merely backing out of the driveway in a minivan full of cracker crumbs, toys and random shoes, it felt more like we were peeling out of the gravel drive in a convertible with the top down while standing up with the wind blowing our hair back and our arms thrown wildly into the sky while screaming "Freeeeeedooooommmmm"!!! You know, sort of like Braveheart, only instead of looking for freedom from tyranny, we were just seeking some relief from anyone 8 yrs old and younger who might have any questions that begin with the word "Mama". In other words, it was nice to get away with a friend for a bit.
I never was a big "sneak out of the house" type teen, but I find that in young motherhood, it's a staple survival tool. Oh, it was so nice and self-centered and fantastically so. And when I got home, all was well. Matt was still snoozing and the boys were playing contently. Now supper's on. And breakfast's cooking, and Old Dan Tucker's just standin' there lookin'. Sorry, I just couldn't help myself. But supper really is on, just minus the Old Dan Tucker standing there lookin' at me part. That's creepy anyway.
And it wouldn't be the proper end to any good day without a few white crackers trying to dance and rap to "soldier boy". Enjoy.

YAY for freedom and friends! Glad you got a break for a while.
And what does old man Tucker say?
ok, it came to me...
"So get out of the way Old Dan Tucker. You're too late to come for supper."???
Thanks for the name edit... it's Supper's gone and b'fast cookin, Old Dan Tucker just stand there lookin'. But it made me think of it when I said Supper's on...
I love Old Dan Tucker...it reminds me of Mr. Edwards.
And I love FREEDOM! When did just a trip to the grocery store by myself become freedom? That is sad.
Love the dancing youngest child that stays in one place as older brothers dance around him!
Very cute. :)
I like to sneak out on Sunday afternoons while Xavier and E are napping!! I used to sneak out early in the am while they were asleep but E wakes up too early now.
Oh, that is too fun. I escaped to BAM with friends last week for coffee - aahhhh...it just adds a little sanity back into my "on the brink" feeling, you know? And, I love your boys. How exuberant! :-)
